For last 10 years, my hair have been going under various treatments that involved lot of chemicals and dryness; coloring, bleaching, ironing, straightning and what else I didn’t do to them. So one can think of the hair condition after all this.
I used this recipe once earlier, when I had damaged hair, but this time it was worse, I had sever hair fall and the remaining hair were too dry, too weak and too dull to look any good. I have been taking high biotin dose from Country Life Maxi Hair Plus, but proper topical cleaning and conditioning is a must.
I asked a friend from India to bring me Amla Reetha Shikakai poweder, as I couldn’t find it in the grocery stores or super markets. She brought me this one which included all three contents.
Later, I discovered that here in UAE, you can find all desi stuff like this from Al-Adil & Co, and yes they have a lot of other amazing herbal stuff. From there, I couldn’t get the all in one Amla Reetha and Shikakai powder, but yes, three separate powders.
How to Make Homemade Shampoo with Amla Reetha Shikakai
I learned this recipe from a shopkeeper (who used to sell this stuff) back in Pakistan, and it’s very simple. Here is the step by step method:
Step 1- Mix 1/4 cup of the powder in 2 cups of water and make sure it’s mixed fully.
Step 2- Put it on stove and keep stirring.
Step 3- Turn off the stove once it gets the boil.
Step 4- Keep it on hot stove for 5 minutes and then take it off for cooling.
Step 5- The Shampoo is ready to use. You can use it as it is or else, you may want to separate the powder particles.
How to Use Amla Reetha Shikakai Homemade Shampoo?
Now it is important to know the right way to use, else, it may not work effectively.
Shampooing your hair with homemade Amla Reetha Shikakai shampoo is different than that of using chemical shampoos, i.e. it doesn’t make that much foam and contains small particles of the powder that must reach your scalp to exfoliate the skin.
DO NOT Shampoo your hair this way, whether you are using Amla Reetha Shikakai homemade shampoo or a store bought shampoo.
The best way is to get your hair in full length and split them apart and then start massaging your scalp with the Amla Reetha Shikakai homemade shampoo, as you scrub your face.
Once you finished scrubbing the scalp, simply comb your hair with you fingers so the shampoo can clean the hair in full length.
Once, the shampoo has reached whole of the hair, rinse it with the shower.
If you oil your hair before washing or you are feeling the hair bit more sticky, just give it a light wash with baby shampoo.
Important Things to Consider While Using Amla Reetha Shikakai Homemade Shampoo
- To see the results with this shampoo, you must use it for a month at least (2 washes/week and 3 washes per week for extra greasy hair).
- While you are using this shampoo, you must not use any chemical shampoo, else it won’t effect. However, you may add a table spoon of baby shampoo if you feel the particles or grease stuck in the hair strands.
- While you are testing the Amla Reetha Shikakai homemade shampoo, stay away from the chemicals, ironing and hair straightening as much as you can.
- Oil your hair at least once in a week.
