We all use serums at one stage; let it be anti-aging, anti-freckles, acne treatment or skin whitening!
Many times we buy an expensive serum and end up with no result. We then blame the product but most of the time, it’s not the product but our lack of knowledge. This is what happened to me various times that I spent a lot on serum and saw no results; so I started exploring about effective use of serums.
Here’s my list of findings about serums and it’s a great feeling to share it so others can save their money, time and effort!
1- Serums contain turbo-charged ingredients that can penetrate in the skin in a way that normal creams cannot do at all. So, if they’re priced high, that has a point!
2- While looking for a good serum, never go for a colour or scent: Most of the best working serums are colourless and odourless liquids.
3- A good serum is absorbed quickly in the skin, i.e. in a few minutes and so leaves your skin dry. This is why serums always need a moisturizing partner like day or night cream which should be applied once the serum is dried on the skin.
4- A serum that is not absorbed quickly and leaves your skin greasy, is not a good serum for sure.
5- You never need a serum in high dosage; smaller is better. The ideal amount of serum for one time application on face should not exceed the drop equal to a pea. That’s how you save money on serums.
6- Serum must always be applied on a clean (ideally exfoliated) and damp skin for effective absorption.
7- Pressing serum into skin with an open palm instead of fingertips actually release active ingredients in much better way.
8- Ideally you should apply tiny dots of serum all over your face and then blend lightly and quickly all over.
9- You must not stretch, pull or rub the skin after applying the serum.
10- If a serum gives a tingling sensation, don’t worry; it can be a sign the active ingredients in the serum are getting to the dermis.
So, whenever you are going to buy a serum, make sure you take it as an investment and not an expenditure.
